When Opportunity Knocks

Dear Marine wife, mom, mentor, bling and other things;

Life often presents us opportunities in life and we have choices we can make, those choices determine how our life can change. I have found throughout my life that I have been offered many opportunities, some I have taken, others I have let pass me by.

Being a Marine wife is a tough job you encounter many challenges in your day to day life, deployments, constant moves, and the list goes on and on and on but I won't get in to all that right now. One thing I have really found challenging with the constant moves is the whole issue of employment and I know many other military wives not just Marine wives can relate to this. It really stinks when you find a job you love and you find out you have to move, then you get to your new place and have to start the whole job search again and this could take weeks, maybe months especially in this economy and depending on how many years your husband has been in the service you could be moving ALOT! Let's face it folks we are in a recession people are getting laid off and or just losing their jobs and that is a scary especially when you have a family. I reached the point when I decided NO MORE I want something I can take with me wherever I go, I want to become my own boss I don't want to put my families financial situation in jeopardy because someone decided to lay me off or fire me. I want flexibility I want options!

I have been offered many opportunities to be my own boss, run my own business, and work my own hours but with lots of investment and more loss then what I was making which does not make sense you want something that will make you money. As Will Rogers said “Don’t grab the first thing that comes by. Know what to turn down." Other times I have let OPPORTUNITY pass me by and then kicked myself in the behind.

Just a little over a year ago I decided to join a candle company. I was invited to sign up with a company and I could earn my kit for FREE. Maybe it was the dream job I have been looking for, I love candles, love a discount and if I can make money too I'm in! How could I say no? I decided to take the plunge! This is where my new journey began.

Opportunity knocked and I took a chance and it has literally changed my life! When you believe in yourself, set goals and devise a plan you can become successful. I have taken myself to places I have never imagined I would before. This mom and marine wife has now become a mentor, has built a team with the help of other motivated woman because I offered them the same OPPORTUNITY I was presented. To be told you are an inspiration is a huge compliment. Never in a million years thought I would become a mentor, let alone become a blogger. I've found what I have been looking for and I'm glad I did not let that window of opportunity pass me by. Guess what? A month ago I became a manager, got a bonus and an all expense paid trip to Arizona to attend a managers retreat where I met some awesome woman, had a great time and learn a lot of new information to help me and my team.

I feel blessed with the OPPORTUNITY I was presented, it has given me confidence and made me fearless. This is where my journey began :)

The Yellow Brick Road and Ruby Red Heels

This weekend while I was watching the Wizard of Oz for some reason Dorothy stuck in my mind and I began to reflect on her whole character in the movie. Although a bit talkative at times and at times a little scared she was a pretty cool young girl with some great characteristics. Dorothy was determined, didn't take crap from anyone, stood up for her friends when she needed too, was kind, loved to meet new people and wanted the best for her friends.

Dorothy had a good heart and on her journey she met some really interesting people on her that became her friends and she protected and stood up for them but they all walking together on a journey but they were all seeking something different. Life is the same way we meet new friends but we are all on a journey seeking different things. We also encounter some other interesting people who we can't really understand why they are the way they are, maybe they are just miserable with their lifes or want what you have, who knows what their reason is. These negative people represent the wicked witch of the west that wants to see us fail and steal our ruby red heels. You can't let these negative Nelly's get in the way of your journey they may try to get in the way but don't let them stand up for yourself like Dorothy did.

Obsticles will come your way and you may be a little scared at times but you have to have determination to want to succeed, just as Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. This group of 4 friends were determined to get to Emerald City no matter what. Getting what they really wanted pushed them to do other things beyond what they ever imagined. During their journey they never gave up they focused on their goals.

Life is very interesting but always remember be true to yourself, don't take crap from anyone, stand up for yourself. Whatever happens on your journey whether you fail or succeed always remember to be kind to your friends, be there when they need you, give them that confidence boost they need, give them advice when they need it or be a shoulder to cry on, stand up for them when you need too and walk with them hand in hand on their journey because they will do the same for you one day.
